Weekly development report 2025/11/29
The status of the stable version of the game changes from week to week. ;) One week of peace, then another bug comes along. This time we are dealing with an interesting week. I managed to find an unforeseen option in the game. And it even took some time to repair it. The game is again a bit more stable. We'll see what next week says. ;) Latest find:
- Added option to sort workshops in the crafting screen. Its absence caused the game to crash.
The development version of the game continues to move ahead at a normal, slow pace. The main focus is still on creating the new UI. But this week, another milestone was achieved: I managed to complete work on the quality of items in the game. At least until I come up with another idea related to this. ;) List of the latest changes:
- As mentioned above, work on the new UI for the game continues. This week we managed to complete the first version of the crafting screen. As usual, there is still some work to be done to improve the look; however, the screen itself is already working and allows you to set crafting recipes. I have now started work on the next screen: last messages. It's a very simple screen, so working here shouldn't take much time. As always, a perfect example of famous last words. :)
- I also spend some time working on the library used to create the new UI. This week I started some slightly more serious changes related to moving it to the Nim programming language. Fortunately, none of these changes have caused any problems with the game (yet).
- Milestone mentioned: Work on the quality of in-game items should now be completed. It seems like everything is working as it should; I'll probably need to balance some things a bit over time. The last thing done is the ability to set the selected item quality when crafting them. Choosing a lower quality makes crafting a given item easier and takes less time. Choosing a better quality works the other way around. Tools and (especially) materials still have a big impact on the final quality, but setting a custom quality can help you craft more challenging recipes or simply speed up the creation of simple ones.
- Same bug found in stable version, fixed in development version.
- And hell froze over. I managed to complete the first version of the code improvement. My checkers show that everything is ok. Well, time to crank up their settings. At least for the past few days, automatic checkers of the game's code have not reported any issues. That will change next week. :)
And because it's been four weeks since the last development version, it's time for a new one. In about 24 hours from this post, it will be available for download. And as usual, the fun of ruining the game will start all over again. :)
